MOA'R-FRY Ranches
Phase I Remedial Report
Page. 3
' 4.0 GEOLOGY
The stratigraphy of the site is characterized as a clay/sand unit with a thin sand lens at
approximately 25 feet, and a sand unit at approximately 39 feet The clay/sand unit is a
sandy clay of medium plasticity with a brownish gray color The sand unit is a medium
to coarse grained micaceous sand. Groundwater was encountered between 50 and 54
feet, at the site Detailed lithologic descriptions can be found in Appendix C (Boring
Logs)
1
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
rThe diesel oil contamination in the location of the former 550 gallon tanks appears to
be limited to the area above 15 feet in depth The diesel fuel contamination found at
' 15 feet in depth, under the former 4,000 gallon tank, seems to terminate above 20 feet
in depth Excavation of the diesel contaminated soils is feasible in both locations The
formur 550 gallon tank area is next to a building and would require the opinion of a
structural engineer as to the extent of an excavation
Toluene is present at 40 feet in depth under the former 550 gallon tank excavation and
' in all the soil samples taken under the 4,000 gallon tank Toluene was not found in the
samples taken under the 4,000 gallon tank at the time of removal, but was present in
the composite samples taken from the stockpiled soil Toluene is normally not present
in diesel fuel and its presence may suggest another previous use for the tank or point
source on the property
I
