This report has been
prepared on behalf of the State of California—Real Estate Services Division(RESD) under Contract
' No. 3108938.
Background information and other data have been furnished to URS by RESD and/or third parties,
which URS has used in preparing this report. URS has relied on this information as furnished, and is
neither responsible for nor has confirmed the accuracy of this information.
BACKGROUND
DVI is a State of California correctional facility with various land uses. A site location map is provided
' as Figure 1. A site plan is provided as Figure 2. Much of the land is used for inmate housing, and most
of the remaining land supports facility operations. DVI's burn pit is located northeast of the inmate
housing facility. The former bum pit location is variably covered with asphalt, grass, and soil. The land
use activity surrounding DVI is primarily agricultural. A Union Pacific Railroad track forms the
' northwest boundary of the DVI property.
In October 1985, water samples were collected from the agricultural drainage ditch downstream of the
DVI stormwater discharge(Figure 2). Elevated levels of chlorinated solvents were detected in the water
samples collected, particularly tetrachloroethene(PCE) and trichloroethene(TCE). Additional sampling
and analysis of the site was conducted in 1986 to identify the source of the impacts. The results
' concluded that introduction of chlorinated solvents into the stormwater drainage system was occurring
in the northern stormwater drainage subsystem. Further soil and groundwater sampling confirmed the
burn pit as the source area of the chlorinated solvents.
URS Corporation
' Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive,Suite 150
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tet(916)679-2000
Fax: (916)679-2900 HAWpmce,,l DIDVI-Bum PiA20111DV1-BP-IQMRII Repmd.
1
