' March 23,2006
NOA PROJECT NUMBER E05131A
' 1.1 Site Description
The subject property is located at 1525 East Jahant Road,Acampo,San Joaquin County,California(see
' Appendix A-Plate 1). The Assessor's Parcel Number(APN) for the Site is 003-150-08. The subject
property is open pasture land with riparian habitat occupying a majority of the northern half. This
results from Jahant Slough which meanders through the center of the subject property. The elevation
' of the Site, according to a United States Geological Survey topographic map,is approximately 45 to 50
feet above mean sea level. The land grades gently up to the northeast.
' Our office was provided with a preliminary map from Mike Smith Engineering,Inc. of Lodi,California,
showing the proposed development. The map shows the proposed development of a winery on the
southern half of the subject property below Jahant Slough with a series of structures, parking areas, oak
' groves, vineyards and wetland water treatment ponds. The Wallace Group has changed the design and
layout of the treatment system to include the Swanson Advanced Integrated Pond System (AIPS).
' 1.2 Local Geology
The Site is depicted on the USGS Preliminary 15 minute Geologic Map of the Lodi Quadrangle as
' within the Quaternary Riverbank Formation (USGS OF12 - 79 -33). The Quaternary Riverbank
Formation (upper, lower and middle members) consists of arkosic alluvium forming Mokelumne River
terraces and alluvial fans;chiefly sand;probably glacial outwash lower fans;abundant volcanic detritus.
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil Survey
to be composed of Bruella sandy loam, hard substratum, 0-2% slopes, and San Joaquin loam, thick
' surface, 0-2% slopes (USDA, 1992).
The San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District(1998 and 1999)ground water
' depth and elevation maps were reviewed to determine the ground water levels near the Site. The Fall
1998 and Spring 1999 maps are the most current official maps available from the County. According
to these maps, ground water lies between 40 and 60 feet below ground surface (bgs) and flows at a
gradient of about 2 feet per mile to the east in the vicinity of the Site.
No ground water was encountered by the staff of Neil O. Anderson &Associates, Inc. during the
' drilling of two percolation test holes to a depth of 25 feet on August 1, 2005. Groundwater was
encountered during this investigation below 40 feet bgs.
' 2.0 MONITORING WELLS INSTALLATION HISTORY
' Neil O. Anderson and Associates (NOA) prepared a Monitoring Well Installation Workplan and
Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Plan for Lange Twins Wine Estates, dated October 17,2005. The
' workplan included the installation of three monitoring wells for background water quality assessment.
The Regional Board responded with several questions in a letter dated December 30,2005.
