ENGEO
INCORPORATED
• Fill up the volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials first, if being analyzed. Check for air
bubbles in the VOA vial by turning it upside down and tapping the side of the bottle. If
bubbles are present, discard the sample and refill a new vial. VOA vials will be preserved
with two drops of 1:1 HCl placed in the vial prior to sample collection.
• Place all samples on ice immediately after collection. Record preservative used on sample
labels.
• QA/QC duplicate samples will be prepared at the frequency of one sample per 10 samples
collected as described later in the Workplan. All samples will be logged on the Monitoring
Well Purge and Sampling Form and in the field logbook. Information included will be the
well number, sample identifier, analyte(s), date, time, and collector's signatures.
• Samples will be labeled and packed for shipment, following procedures described later in the
Workplan. Chain-of-custody records and any other necessary shipping documentation will
be prepared at the time of sampling.
Disposal of Purge Water
Due to the rural and agricultural land use in the vicinity of the planned monitoring wells, it is
very unlikely that the groundwater at the site is contaminated with hazardous constituents.
Therefore, purge water removed from each well will not be contained. Should there be any
indication of the presence of hazardous constituents in the water, the water will be contained at
the well head in 55 gallon steel drums until chemical sampling and analysis can be performed.
Based on the analytical results, the groundwater will be disposed of at an appropriate disposal
facility.
Equipment Decontamination
All reusable field equipment used to collect, handle, or measure samples will be decontaminated
before coming into contact with any sample. The decontamination procedure will match the
degree of contamination on the sampling tool. For example, brushes and soap will be required to
4943.4.640.01
April 17, 2007 8
