ENGEO <br /> INCORPORATED <br /> Sample Containers,Preservatives and Holding Times <br /> All samples will be placed into containers provided by the laboratory. Groundwater samples will <br /> be collected in the following containers, some of which have preservative compounds as <br /> specified: <br /> • For purgable hydrocarbons and aromatics (EPA Methods 8260B), three 40 milliliter glass <br /> vials with Teflon lined silicon septa and black phenolic caps. The vials will contain two <br /> drops of 1:1 hydrochloric (HCL) as a preservative. <br /> • For the following analytes: inorganic anions, chloride, nitrate-N, nitrite-N, and sulfate; total <br /> dissolved solids; and total hardness (EPA Methods 300.0, 160.1, and 130.2, respectively), <br /> one 250-milliliter polyethylene bottle. <br /> • For total kjeldahl nitrogen (Standard Method 4500-NHA one 1-liter polyethylene bottle <br /> containing sufficient sulfuric acid(H2SO4)to reduce the sample water to a pH of 2 or less. <br /> • Analytical holding times for the groundwater samples are 14 days for volatile organic <br /> compounds; 7 days for anions, total dissolved solids, and hardness; and 28 days for total <br /> kjeldahl nitrogen. <br /> Sampling Labeling <br /> Sample labels will be waterproof, written with indelible ink, and secured to the sample container <br /> with clear acetate tape. The following information shall be included on sample labels: <br /> • Site name <br /> • Sample identification number <br /> • Date and time collected <br /> • Whether the sample is preserved or unpreserved and preservative use, if any, and the type of <br /> preservative used <br /> 4943.4.640.01 <br /> April 17, 2007 10 <br />
