Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
chemical concentrations in nearby wells (GW-3 and GW-4). The ditch along the northern
property boundary historically collected irrigation return flow.
Potential impacts of the perimeter canal and ditches at the facility will be evaluated by
maintaining logs of the presence and amount of flows in each ditch. During quarterly
groundwater monitoring events in winter and spring 2010, water quality samples will be
collected from each ditch if water is present. This dataset will be used to assess potential
leakage from the irrigation canal and the degree of dewatering of the LAAs by the north
drainage ditch. Soil permeability along the ditches will be assessed as part of this investigation,
if needed. Additional groundwater monitoring wells along the north property boundary
(discussed below) will provide groundwater quality information.
3.2 Proposed Groundwater Monitoring Well Locations and
Rationale
Additional groundwater monitoring wells are proposed to better understand the variability in
groundwater quality at the facility and to characterize background water quality.
3.2.1 Purpose of Monitoring Wells
The proposed groundwater monitoring wells will allow Sutter Home to further characterize and
monitor groundwater underlying the proposed land application areas. The additional
groundwater monitoring will enable Sutter Home to characterize background groundwater
quality. Once background conditions are established, potential impacts of the LAAs can also be
evaluated.
3.2.2 Proposed Locations
Four new groundwater monitoring wells are proposed for installation under this Work Plan. The
proposed and existing monitoring well locations are shown on Figure 4. The rationale for each
of the proposed monitoring wells is discussed below:
Proposed Monitoring Well Rationale
GW-15, GW-16, GW-17 These locations along the northern property boundary are
hydraulically cross-gradient to the dominant groundwater
flow direction in the area. Land use to the north consists
of crop production and some manure land application.
GW-18 This location at the eastern property boundary is
hydraulically upgradient of the dominant groundwater flow
direction and downgradient of dairy farming operations to
the east.
These well locations would augment two existing wells on the eastern property boundary (GW-1
and GW-13) to provide sufficient data to characterize variability in upgradient groundwater
quality. The well installation process is described in Section 4.
Hydrogeologic Investigation and Groundwater Sampling and Analysis Work Plan, Page 11
Sutter Home Lodi Winery, Lodi, California
g:Y3-gro.plaGNn'{oC108108c5005.wtteilfame109aepoftk"r tas %10yft work PIVnLxtdm
