The workplan was
submitted to support a planned increase of process wastewater discharge at the facility.
Wastewater discharge to land at the facility is currently permitted under Waste Discharge
Requirements (WDRs) Order R5-2012-0078, which was adopted on 13 March 2009 and
amended on 3 August 2012.
The winery and associated LAAs currently comprise approximately 297 acres. Approximately
104 acres of cropped land are currently used as LAAs. In July 2013, Sutter Home purchased
an additional 233 acres of an adjacent property to the west to provide additional LAAs for in
anticipation of increased process wastewater discharge. A Report of Waste Discharge (RWD)
to revise the existing WDRs to allow wastewater discharge to the expanded LAAs is currently
pending.
The facility currently has a network of 18 shallow-interval groundwater monitoring wells, which
are used to collect baseline groundwater data to characterize local hydrogeologic conditions.
Groundwater monitoring data indicate that shallow groundwater is present at a depth of
approximately 10 feet below ground surface and generally flows from east to west.
Groundwater monitoring is currently required under Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP)
No. R5-2009-0073, which was issued by the Executive Officer on 13 August 2009.
The workplan proposes the installation of four shallow-interval monitoring wells (GW-19
through GW-22) to evaluate pre-discharge groundwater conditions of the recently acquired
LAAs. The proposed monitoring wells will provide baseline water quality and gradient
information downgradient of existing LAAs. Additionally, a soil boring will be advanced and
sampled on the newly acquired property to a depth of approximately 50 feet bgs to provide
deeper lithologic information.
KARL E.
