The wells will be <br /> pre-developed after the filter pack is installed, and prior to the bentonite seal being installed. A <br /> two-to three-foot layer of protective bentonite clay pellets will be placed to minimize downward <br /> L migration of the grout seal into the filter pack. A neat cement grout will be placed above the <br /> bentonite extending continuously from the top of the bentonite pellet layer to less than one foot <br /> below grade. Based on the construction of existing wells, it is anticipated that this grout seal will <br /> be extended to an approximate depth of three to four feet bgs. <br /> A locking expansion cap and well-housing enclosure will be installed to control access to the <br /> well opening. Wells located in unpaved areas off of the access roads will be completed above <br /> grade and furnished with a protective, locking steel casing. Wells located in access roads will be <br /> completed with a traffic-rated surface monument. Each surface monument will be completed <br /> one to two inches above grade and furnished with a sloping concrete apron to facilitate surface <br /> drainage away from the well. A schematic diagram of well construction details is shown on <br /> Figure 6. <br /> Sampling equipment will be steam cleaned between boreholes. The augers will not be steam <br /> cleaned between boreholes. <br /> 4.2.2 Development <br /> After waiting a minimum of 48 hours to allow curing of the grout and concrete, the monitoring <br /> wells will be developed by surging and pumping until the water removed from the wells is <br /> sediment-free, no further improvement in water quality is observed, or 10 casing volumes have <br /> been purged. Field parameters of pH, temperature, and conductivity will be recorded. <br /> Development equipment will be decontaminated between wells using non-phosphate soap and <br /> potable water with a final rinse with distilled water. <br /> The monitoring wells will be allowed to recover for a minimum of 72 hours following well <br /> development, prior to monitoring and sampling. Development water will be contained at the well <br /> site and then discharged on the ground at the well site in a manner that does not interfere with <br /> Lsite safety. <br /> 4.3 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis <br /> Initial samples will be collected from the monitoring wells no sooner than 72 hours after the <br /> newly installed monitoring wells have been developed. Groundwater sampling will be performed <br /> in accordance with the Kennedy/Jenks' SOG for Groundwater Sampling (Appendix B). The <br /> ! water level at each new well will be measured relative to the top of well casing to +/- 0.01 feet <br /> accuracy before purging, and the date and time will be recorded. At least three casing volumes <br /> of water will be purged from each monitoring well prior to sampling in order to acquire samples <br /> representative of aquifer conditions. The field parameters pH, temperature, and specific <br /> ►� conductance will be monitored during purging to document stabilization. The parameters will be <br /> measured in accordance with Kennedy/Jenks' SOG for Field Measurement of pH, Temperature, <br /> and Specific Conductance (Appendix B). Purge water will be distributed on the ground at the <br /> L well site. <br /> v Following collection, groundwater samples will be submitted to a state-certified laboratory for <br /> analysis.
