NOW
Kennedy/Jenks Consukants
Section 3: Field Activities
3.1 Location of Wells
Wells GW-5, GW-6, and MW-1 are located in an area that will be reconstructed as part of the
LAA expansion. These two monitoring wells and one piezometer will be destroyed. After
reconstruction of the LAA is completed, replacement wells GW-5R and GW-6R will be installed
on the north-south trending roadway located on the west side of the reconfigured LAA. The
locations are shown on Figure 3. The piezometer MWA, the existence of which was only
recently realized by Sutter Home, is not needed and will not be replaced.
3.2 Pre-Field Activities
Kennedy/Jenks will perform the following activities prior to commencing fieldwork at the Site.
• Revise the site-specific Hazard Appraisal and Recognition Plan (attached as Appendix A).
• Obtain well destruction and installation permits from San Joaquin County.
• Survey the proposed boring locations to identify subsurface utilities by performing a utility
clearance check prior to drilling. Kennedy/Jenks will contact Underground Service Alert for
utility clearance at least two working days before the scheduled fieldwork. In addition, a
private subsurface utility locating service will be retained to perform a search for
underground utilities at the proposed drilling locations.
• Contract with a C-57 licensed drilling contractor to perform the fieldwork.
• Develop the newly-installed monitoring wells.
3.3 Groundwater Monitoring Well Destruction
Three wells (MW-1 [used as a piezometer), GW-5 and GW-6)will be destroyed in advance of
the LAA reconstruction.
The drilling contractor will first remove the steel standpipe at each location. The well will be
sounded to verify its depth, then the contractor will overdrill the well with augers no less than
7-inch diameter, fitted with a 'stinger' or other feature that assures the augers will follow the well
casing.
After drilling to total depth, the contractor will remove the augers from the borehole, attach a
wood bung to the lead auger, and re-drill to the total depth. After inserting tremie pipe, the
contractor will eject the wood bung and pump cement grout through the tremie pipe into the
augers until all of the formation water in the augers is displaced and the augers are filled with
grout. The grouting will be done under the direction of a San Joaquin County grout inspector.
Monitoring Well Replacement Work Plan Page 4
Sutter Home Winery, Lodi, California
gV mupWnn4obb8'OBfi5 ,15_wtte,Iwmea pwh winstauwy*Adw
