Emergency Response situations <br /> are generally those where: <br /> • It may cause high levels of exposure to toxic substances <br /> • It is life or injury threatening <br /> • Employees must evacuate the area <br /> • It poses Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) conditions <br /> • It poses a fire or explosion hazard <br /> • It requires immediate attention because of danger <br /> • It represents an oxygen deficient condition <br /> In the event of an emergency response situation, the following guidelines should be <br /> followed: <br /> 1) Upon initial discovery: <br /> a) Determine: <br /> • Is the spill incidental or emergency response? <br /> • Should you evacuate or respond? <br /> b) Safety First: <br /> • Do not put yourself in harm's way <br /> • If conditions change, the spill or leak may no longer be incidental <br /> 2) Inform and Block: <br /> a) Notify an Emergency Coordinator <br /> • Inform: who, what, where, how much <br /> b) Limit traffic through the spill area <br /> 3) Call Emergency Responders: <br /> a) 911 <br /> b) Fremouw Environmental Service.: (800) 559-3274 <br /> 4) Protect Yourself <br /> a) What Personal Protective Equipment is needed? <br /> • Check with Emergency Coordinator <br /> • Check SDS sheets <br /> 5) Deploy Spill Response Materials <br /> a) For Emergency Response: <br /> • Prevent spill from entering the natural drainage areas and protect <br /> around the well using absorbents,wattles, dirt, large equipment, etc. <br /> 6) Bag or containerize waste <br />
