NOA Drywell Closure and Investigation Page 7 of 26
' May 30, 2014
3.2.2 Waste Disposal
jDrill cuttings and decontamination water were properly containerized and stored in 55-gallon
covered drums during and subsequent to site activities. Waste disposal was planned at
Forward Landfill, Inc. in Manteca, California. Disposal methodologies were contingent upon
analytical results. The landfill reviewed sampling results and additionally required representative
sampling of the waste in the drums for CAM-17 Metals. There are a total of six (6) full drums
and one (1) half-full drum containing drill cuttings and decontamination water. One (1) soil
sample was collected from each of the seven (7) drums. Samples were composited 4:1 and 3:1,
for a total of two (2) soil samples analyzed for CAM-17 Metals. Samples were picked up and
analyzed by McCampbell Analytical, Inc. Analytical results are included in Appendix D.
Disposal at Forward Landfill, Inc. in Manteca, California was approved by Republic Services on
April 28, 2014. The seven (7) drums containing the drill cuttings and decontamination water
were properly disposed of at Forward Landfill, Inc, in Manteca, California on May 6, 2014. A
Non-Hazardous Special Waste Manifest for the disposal is included in Appendix B. Laboratory
samples were disposed of by the analytical laboratory in accordance with their established
' protocols. All waste was disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
3.2.3 Well Protection
The destruction and sampling of DW-1 was completed on March 28, 2014. Destruction and
investigation activities for DW-2 were scheduled for the following week. Heavy precipitation was
' anticipated in between. Therefore, the extant drywell required protection from the elements.
DW-2 was sealed with bentonite, the area of both wells was covered and the perimeter sealed
with bentonite, and a full 55-gallon drum was placed on top of DW-2. This prevented storm
water from entering the drywell.
3.3 Health and Safety Plan
Please see the site-specific Health and Safety Plan utilized for well destruction and sampling
activities, included as Appendix C.
3.4 Drywell Destruction Deviations
The following deviation from the work plan arose during well destruction:
12-inch hollow stem auger used for over-drilling to forty-seven (47) feet bgs to ensure
removal of all well material, rather than an 8-inch hollow stem auger as specified in the
work plan.
r
902 Industrial Way• Lodi, CA 95240 •209.367.3701 • Fax 209.333.8303 02014 Neil 0.Anderson 8 Associates,Inc.
