Air Sparge System Monrtorrng
On December 27, 2005, the air sparge system was observed to have a cracked"T"Joint Subsequently, the
' air sparge system was shut down The fitting was replaced on January 13, 2006 and the air sparge system
was restarted The air sparge system operated continuously from January 13 to February 3, 2006 The air
sparge system was shutt off by ATC personnel on February 3, 2006, since the VES was not operating
' properly The air sparge system was restarted on March 21,2006
REMEDIATION SYSTEM EVALUATION
' Soil Vapor Extraction System Evaluation
' From December 28,2005 to March 23,2006,the vapor extraction system was operational for approximately
305 9 hours The SVE system operated for approximately 9 days at 45 cfm from Januaryl 1 to February 3,
2006, and for approximately 3 days at 36 cfm from March 21 to March 23, 2006 The vapor extraction
system did not operate from December 28, 2005 to January 11, 2006 and February 3 to March 21, 2006
' The average extracted vapor flow rate was approximately 42 8 cfm and the average influent vacuum
achieved by the thermal oxidizer was approximately 23 25 inches of mercury, based on the information
contained on the field monitoring data sheets contained in Attachment 3
' Based on the measured influent flow rate of 42 8 cfm, average influent concentration of each analyte in
ppmv, and using the values supplied by SunStar Labs of 24 5 liters of vapor per mole of analyte and the
molecular weight of each analyte in grams per mole, ATC calculated the total number of pounds of each
analyte removed by the SVE system during the first quarter 2006 Calculations associated with the
removal of the target analytes TPHg Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and MTBE are provided
on Table 6
Total TPHg removed via vapor extraction since system startup on December 19,2002
' 8,736 31 pounds(lbs)of TPHg as of end of fourth quarter 2005 +4 09 lbs of TPHg first quarter 2006=
8,740 40 pounds of TPHg removed since the startup of the system
' Total benzene removed via vapor extraction since system startup on December 19, 2002
'
2139 lbs benzene removed total as of end of fourth quarter 2005+ 0 08 Ibs benzene first quarter 2006
=21 47 pounds of benzene removed since the startup of the system
Additionally, the SVE system removed approximately 0 13 lbs of toluene, 0 19 lbs of ethylbenzene, 1 25 lbs
' of total xylenes, and 0 01 pounds of MTBE during the first quarter 2006 These values were calculated for
the current reporting period, however, a cumulative total since remediation began at the site has not
historically been calculated
Destruction Efficiency
' The destruction efficiencies for TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes using laboratory data
from January 24, 2006, were calculated to be approximately 98 28 percent, 31 51 percent, 88 89 percent,
54 55 percent,and 86 84 percent,respectively
The destruction efficiencies for TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes using laboratory data
from March 23, 2006, were calculated to be approximately 58 54 percent, 94 85 percent, 81 05 percent,
' 96 82 percent,and 95 44 percent, respectively
