KLEINFELDER
r
1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This is Kleinfelder's Site Closure Report for the soil and groundwater assessment, and soil
remediation performed at the San Joaquin County General Hospital in French Camp,
California The assessment and remediation were performed by Kleinfelder for San Joaquin
County Department of Capital Projects and under the observation and review of San Joaquin
County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division.
Three underground fuel storage tanks (T1, T2, and T3) were excavated and removed from the
site Based on an initial assessment, Kleinfelder did not recommend additional soil assessment
' or remediation at the T1 site Analytical results of the initial soil assessment indicated that
additional soil assessment and remediation were required at the T2/73 site
Kleinfelder drilled and sampled seven soil borings around the T2/T3 site The estimated
lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon migration and the area to be remediated
were estimated based on the results of the seven soil bonngs Approximately 1,000 cubic
yards of non-impacted soil and 2,400 yards of impacted soil were excavated to a depth of 34
feet Ten confirmation samples indicated that the petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil
had been excavated and removed. The T2/T3 excavation was backfilled by San Joaquin
County
The excavated soil piles from the T2/T3 site were assessed and aerated on site TPH
' concentrations were detected, lust above laboratory reporting limits in two of the six composite
samples from the aeration pile.
Three monitoring wells were installed around the T2/T3 site to assess the groundwater
iPetroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in two rounds of groundwater sampling conducted
at the site Results of the monitoring wells indicated that the petroleum hydrocarbons
associated with the fuel tanks had not impacted the groundwater San Joaquin County Public
Health Services allowed the three monitoring wells to be abandoned
The T1 tank site did not require additional soil assessment or remediation The T2/T3 site had
petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil excavated and aerated on site Kleinfelder does not
24-220152-Doo/FR12-105 (1993) Page 1 of 18 July 27, 1993
