I( LEINEELDER
2 BACKGROUND
This report summarizes Kleinfelder's petroleum hydrocarbon soil assessment and remediation
of three underground gasoline storage tanks (UST) at the San Joaquin County General Hospital
site at 500 Hospital Road in French Camp, California (Plate 1, Site Location Map) The
USTs were located at two sites within the hospital complex (Plate 2, Underground Tank
Location Map).
Site #1 had a 6,000 gallon UST (T1). Although there was no written record of the tank's
installation date, it is believed that T1 may have been installed during the 1940's T1 was
reported to have contained unleaded gasoline, but because of its age, it is possible that it
contained leaded gasoline at one time. After failing a precision tank test, the T1 site was
assessed and T1 removed The initial soil investigation results are presented in Kleinfelder's
Soil Assessment Report dated December 6, 1991 A copy of Kleinfelder's Assessment Report
for the T1 site is included in Appendix A Kleinfelder did not recommend additional
assessment or remediation of the T1 site
Site #2 had two 750 gallon USTs (T2, T3). Tank T2 was originally thought to be the only
tank at this site; however, tank T3 was found immediately adjacent to T2 during a geophysical
survey. Both tanks are thought to have contained gasoline at one time, but have not been filled
in at least 25 years. The T2/T3 site was initially assessed in October of 1991 The initial soil
assessment results are presented in Kleinfelder's Soil Assessment Report dated December 6,
1991. Based on the results of the initial assessment, the San Joaquin County Department of
Capital Projects requested further assessment and remediation of the T2/T3 site
' This report summarizes the additional assessment and remediation work, and presents the data
and Kleinfelder's conclusions and recommendations based on that data
' Jul 27 1993
24_220152-D00/R12-105 (1993) Page 3 of 18 y ,
copyright 1993 uteinfetder, Inc
