' KCEINFELDER <br /> 3 FIELD INVESTIGATION <br /> ' 3 1 GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY <br /> Because actual locations of the tanks, fuel lines and utility lines were not known, a <br /> ' geophysical survey was performed to locate these structures. <br /> ' On September 19, 1991, Spectrum Environmental Sciences, Inc (Spectrum E S I } <br /> conducted a geophysical survey of the two tank sites. Spectrum E S I. assessed the actual <br /> ' saes and locations of the two known tanks using a probe inserted into the tanks' fill ports <br /> While cleaning an access route to the fill port of T2, the fill port of an additional tank (T3) <br /> ' was uncovered Tank T3 was sized and located in a similar manner to tanks T1 and T2 T1 <br /> was assessed as a 6,000 gallon tank, whale both T2 and T3 were assessed as 750 gallon <br /> tanks Whale on site, Spectrum E S I used a combination of electromagnetic and <br /> ' conductivity tools to locate underground utilities in the vicinity of the tanks Copies of the <br /> maps provided by Spectrum E S I are included in Appendix A <br /> 3 2 DRILLING OF SOIL BORINGS <br /> ' Based on the findings of the geophysical survey, four borings were drilled at the two tank <br /> ' sates at the locations shown on Plates 3 and 4 At Site #1, borings B-3 and B-4 were drilled <br /> vertically to a depth of 25 feet on the east and west ends of tank T1 Two shallow borings <br /> were proposed near the previous pump island location for tank Tl, however, a storm drain <br /> pipe and the water main to the hospital were in close proximity to the proposed boring <br /> locations and may have been damaged whale drilling Consequently, borings near the <br /> previous pump island location were not drilled <br /> ' At Site #2, because of obstructions (utilities and buildings), one angle boring was drilled <br /> beneath each tank (12 and T3) The borings (B-1 and B-2) were angled such that soil <br /> samples were collected at a depth of approximately 8 feet at the east end of each tank, to a <br /> depth of 18 feet at the west end of each tank (Plate 5--Angle Soil Boring Cross-Section <br /> Underground Tanks T2, T3) <br /> Soil borings were advanced using a truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 6-inch hollow <br /> stem augers During drilling, an experienced environmental geologist classified the soil, <br /> ' PR25-91-29 Page 4 of 1 <br /> Copyright 1991 Kleinfelder,Inc <br />
