V Sw/ Groundwater Investig4 and Groundwater Extraction Work Plan
Boyett Petroleum,419 S.Main Street,Manteca
May 16,2006
Page 3
V
3.1 SITE PREPARATION
Condor will complete boring permit and encroachment permit applications and obtain the required
.,. permits from the SJCEHD and the City of Manteca Public Works Department (PWD) prior to the
fieldwork. Condor will coordinate all field activities with the SJCEHD and the PWD. The area where the
proposed borings are to be advanced will be marked with white paint and Underground Service Alert
(USA) will be notified at least 48 hours in advance of the fieldwork to locate and identify underground
utilities in and near the work area.
3.2 DIRECT PUSH BORING PROCEDURES
V
Prior to commencement of fieldwork, a tailgate safety meeting will be held and a site-specific Health and
Safety Plan will be discussed with, and presented to, all field personnel for their signatures. Three direct
,pu_s_h_bboorinngs will be advanced in the parking strip of Stockton Street and one direct push boring will be
avd anced in the parking strip of Wetmore Street for the purpose of collecting-grounrlwatef samples. The
approximate locations of the proposed borings are shown in Figure 3, Appendix A.
`r One groundwater sample will be collected from the first encountered groundwater in each boring. It is
anticipated that groundwater will be encountered at approximately 17 feet bgs. Each boring will then be
advanced to approximately 30 feet bgs and a second groundwater sample will be collected from the
low boring. The groundwater samples will be collected using a push-type groundwater sampler. The sampler
and associated push rods will be thoroughly cleaned before each sample is collected using laboratory-
grade,non-phosphate detergent and deionized water and double rinsed with deionized water.
V
The sampler has a sealed, retrievable stainless steel screen. The sampler will be pushed in a closed
position to the desired sampling interval. The sampler push rod will then be retracted to expose the inlet
screen. Groundwater will flow hydrostatically from the formation into the inlet screen. A groundwater
sample will be retrieved from within the screen with a length of clean, 3/8-inch diameter polytygon tubing
equipped with a check valve at the bottom. The tubing will be moved up and down by hand to draw
L groundwater up inside the tubing. The groundwater sample will be discharged directly from the tubing
into laboratory-supplied sample containers. Each container will be labeled for sample identification and
placed in a cooler chilled with ice. Upon completion of the fieldwork, the groundwater samples will be
delivered under chain-of-custody procedures to a California certified laboratory for analyses. Upon
completion of the borings and sampling, the borings will be grouted with neat cement.
3.3 LABORATORY ANALYSES
r
The groundwater samples collected from the borings will be analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene, total xylenes (BTEX), and selected gasoline oxygenates/additives by EPA Method 8260B, and
for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-G) by EPA Method 8015M. The selected
oxygenates/additives include MTBE, ethanol, tertiary-butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl
tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), and 1,2-
dibromoethane(EDB).
V
4.0 GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION
Condor conducted a 72-hour constant rate pump test at monitoring well MW-11 from November 18
`w through 21, 2003. The average pumping rate was approximately 8.7 gallons per minute (gpm).
Approximately 0.5 feet of drawdown was observed at well EW-1 during the pump test. Approximately
0.2 pounds of MTBE were removed from groundwater during the pump test.
V
V
1
is CONDOR
V
