MAIN ST.
MANTECA CA 95336
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has received
and approved Work Plan for the Lateral and Vertical Extent of Contamination Addendum dated May 19,
1999 prepared by WHF,Inc. for the above referenced site.
In a letter dated May 17, 1999, PHS/EHD directed you,the responsible party, to complete a well
survey by June 5, 1999, and commence installation of the monitoring well installation as proposed in
the work plan by July 5, 1999. WHF,Inc.stated they are unable to meet the well survey deadline. In a
telephone conversation with WHF,Inc.staff on June 9, 1999, PHS/EHD agreed to extend the deadline
for the commencement of the work proposed in the plan to July 15, 1999.
Underground Storage Tank Preliminary Investigation Report of findings dated October 23, 1998 prepared
by WHF,Inc. reported analytical results of the water sample collected from soil boring#1 at
approximately 18 feet bsg as 47,000 parts per billion (ppb) of Methyl tert-Butyl Ether(MTBE). General-.
geology of the site ranges from fine sand to gravel starting from surface to approximately 50 feet below
surface grade (bsg) with occasional non-continuous layers of clay and silty-clay in between. No
lithologic data in the vicinity of the site exists below 50 feet bsg. Due to the high concentration of
MTBE detected in the grab ground water samples, the mobile nature of MTBE, and the high
permeability of the soil in the area, there is a degree of urgency in the installation of the proposed
monitoring wells.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeffrey Wong at (209)468-0335.
a Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
I
` Jeffrey Wong, REHS Margaretgorio,RENS rA
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
C: RWQCB, Central Valley Region-Mark List f
C: WHF, Inc.-Bill Fox
I
i
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
i
i
