MAIN ST.
MANTECA CA 95336
f
This is.a memorandum of the telephone conversation on August 25,2003 with your
consultant, Condor Earth Technologies,Inc. (Condor). Condor stated that because the
screen section of MWA extends below the clay layer located at approximately 25 feet below
surface grade (bsg),it connects two separate sand zones and may be a potential conduit for
cross-contamination. Condor is in the process of drafting a work plan to replace MW-1 as
originally directed in the letter dated May 29,2003 from San Joaquin County Environmental f
Health Department(EHD).
EHD recommends that submission of a work plan to replace MWA be delayed until the
lateral and vertical investigation work as proposed in Additional Gtnundwater Investigation Work
Plan dated June 25,2003 prepared by Condor has been completed, and the corresponding
report has been reviewed by this office. Necessity of replacing MW-1 will be based on the
new information on the vertical extent of the contamination in groundwater, the presence
(or lack of) of the above-mentioned clay layer away from MWA,and if this clay layer
actually provides significant barrier against vertical contaminant migration.
DATED August 25, 2003 BY
Cc: CRWQCB,Central Valley Region James L.L.
