r
Environmental Professional
February 23, 2001
Page 3
The REA program does recognize that Registered Geologists and Professional
Engineers have a role within the environmental assessment, investigation and
remediation framework. The law states that an:individual may not claim the privileges of
being a registered geologist, professional engineer, or the privileges of any other
registration, certification or license unless the individual holds that particular credential.
Registrants and licensees are required to act in a manner that protects the health
and safety of the public, workers and the environment and to hold these activities
paramount during their activities. We trust that this letter clarifies the role of the REA and
other professional registrants in conducting environmental response activities. The
Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and the Board for
Geologists and Geophysicists (BGG) will continue to work closely together to enhance
the ability of the State to protect human health and the environment by moving forward
to mutually implement our respective programs. If you have any questions regarding the
contents of this letter, please contact Richard Bailey of the REA Program, OEHHA at
(916).327-1076,or Paul Sweeney of the BGG, at(91-6) 263-2113.
Sincerely, .
i
I
Val F.
