Boyett Petroleum June 29, 2001
419 South Main Street, Manteca, California
Final Report of Findings for Lateral Page 3
P Extent of Groundwater Contamination
On December 20-22, 2000, WHF, Inc., in conjunction with Frontier Drilling, a state
licensed drilling contractor, completed four (4) soil borings (Figure 3), that were converted
to monitoring wells, to a depth of approximately 26.5' bgl (groundwater depth —17') to
confirm the presence or absence of petroleum hydrocarbons and the vertical extent of the
soil contamination in the unauthorized release area. The actual depth of the wells varied
between 20' and 25'. This event provided further data to evaluate the soil contamination,
' and the extent of groundwater contamination underlying the site.
Soil samples were taken from all four (4) borings at five (5) foot intervals for soil
' classification. Three (3) soil samples were selected from each boring at depths of 16-16 '/2
feet, 20-21 '/2 feet, and 26-26 '/2 feet for laboratory analysis. Each boring was converted
' into a monitoring well.
A total of twelve (12) soil samples were taken and analyzed using EPA method
5030/LUFT for gasoline petroleum hydrocarbons, EPA method 8260B for BTX&E
compounds, oxygenates, Ethylene Dibromide (EDB), and 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA).
The soil sample analysis indicated no detectable levels of Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
Gasoline, BTXE, oxygenates, EDB, or 1,2-DCA in the twelve (12) soil samples collected
from the borings/wells.
3.0 Scope of Work
1 This scope of work was developed to explore the lateral and vertical extent of groundwater
contamination at Boyett Petroleum in Manteca, California. The data collected during this
scope of work was used to define the migration of the groundwater plume, and to make
recommendations regarding future work at this site. This Final Report of Findings
includes Cone Penetrometer Technology (CPT) data, as well as the installation of a deep
' well extending below the groundwater table.
On February 2, 2001, WHF, Inc., in conjunction with VBI In-Situ' Testing of Sacramento,California, conducted two (2) CPT exploratory soil penetrations at Boyett Petroleum in
Manteca, California.
' CPT-1 was penetrated to a depth of 76' bgl when the cone encountered resistance and the
penetration was completed at that depth. CPT-2 was penetrated to a depth of 76.4' bgl,
' when the cone again encountered resistance and the penetration was completed at that
depth.
