L
SC&D Boyett Petroleum
419 South Main Street October 27, 1999
Manteca, California Page: S
The samples were pumped from a stainless steel bladder pump and carefully
poured from a Teflon bailer into clean glass vials with Teflon-lined screw caps
and half gallon plastic containers provided by the laboratory. Care was taken to
ensure that no air space existed in the vials by inverting to check for bubbles
and re-sampling if necessary. The samples were analyzed within 14 days
according to their EPA methods. Water samples collected for analysis were
analyzed by EPA method 5330/LUFT for total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
Gasoline, and EPA method 602 for BTX&E and method 8260 for oxygenates
including MTBE. The minimum detection limits used for each analyte will be
0.5 µg11 for BTEX, and 0.5 mg/l for gasoline and diesel. Analyses are to be
conducted by the State-certified laboratory GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc., in
Modesto, California.
4.0 Analytical Results
4.1 Soil Analytical Results
The soil sample analysis indicated no detectable levels of Petroleum Hydrocarbons
as Gasoline or BTXE in the eleven (11) soil samples collected from the
borings/wells. The soil sample analysis indicated MTBE contamination is present
' in MW-1, MW-3, and M4. Samples MW-1@20' and MW-1@30' contain MTBE
contamination at concentrations of 150 ug/Kg and 65 ug/Kg, respectively. The
sample MW-3@18' contains 200 ug/Kg of MTBE. Samples MW-4@10', MW-
4@15', and MW-4@20' contain MTBE contamination at concentrations of 22
ug/Kg, 40 ug/Kg, and 45 ug/Kg, respectively. Table 1 provides a tabular summary
of the soil analytical data. The soil sample laboratory results, Chain of Custody
Reports, and QA/QC reports can be found in Appendix B.
4.2 Groundwater Analytical Results
The groundwater sample analysis indicated that gasoline oxygenate contamination
exists in the groundwater underlying this site. MTBE contamination is present in
MW-1 at a concentration of 2,700 ug/L, MW-3 at a concentration of 5,700 ug/L,
and in MW4 at a concentration of 140 ug/L. Tertiary-Butanol is present in MW-1
at a level of 98 ug/L. TAME is present in MW-1 and MW-3 at levels of 7.7 ug/L
and 16 uglL, respectively. No other contaminant is present in the groundwater at
significant.levels. Table 2 of this report provides a tabular summary of the
. groundwater analytical data. The groundwater laboratory results, Chain of
Custody and QA/QC Reports can be found in Appendix C.
