IV. Summary and Recommendations
The results of the verification sampling investigation indicate the presence of soil and
ground-water contamination on the Banner Island site. For purposes of considering site
mitigation measures, the contamination which has impacted soil and ground water on the
western portion of the parcel will be addressed below somewhat independently of the
shallow soil contamination which has impacted soil on the eastern portion of the parcel.
Following is a summary of the key findings for the eastern and western portions of the
parcel based on present data.
Eastern Portion of Parcel/East of Former Ship Building
• TPH as motor oil is present at designated concentrations at a depth of 3 feet in
the vicinity of borings 131 and B2. TPH concentrations decrease to very low
levels at a depth of 5 feet.
• Low concentrations of TPH as gasoline were detected in borings B1 and B2. No
BTEX was detected at those locations.
• Elevated total metal concentrations (lead, copper, and zinc) are present at all
three boring sites, particularly at a depth of 3 feet. Metal concentrations
generally decrease to typical and/or background concentrations at a depth of 5
feet.
• The total lead concentration in boring B2 exceeds the TTLC for lead at a depth
of 3 feet.
© 1_UHDORFF & SCALMANINI
NSLJLT INC; L NGINEL. k'
