E1 Dorado St. "/?AF
Stockton, CA 95202-1997
Re: Proposed Stockton Record Site
(Banner Island/former Western Pacific RR)
As per your recent conversation with Ron Valinoti, Director of
Environmental Health, we have discussed this site with Cori Condon
of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB) . Ms. Condon indicated, as did Mr. William Crooks in his
letter to you, that the CVRWQCB is unable to provide oversight of
assessment activities at the above referenced site due to severe
staff and funding shortfalls.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) is willing to provide oversight for the next
phase of assessment for this site on an fee for service basis
($78. 00 per hour) . The CVRWQCB will provide limited consultation
to PHS/EHD staff regarding the soils investigation and any
remediation activities. The CVRWQCB specifies, however; that they
will retain final oversight authority for the groundwater
investigation and any required remediation.
We would be happy to meet with you to discuss the next phase of
activities and our role.
To schedule this meeting or if you have any questions regarding the
assessment activities, contact Steven Schneider, at 468-3441, or
myself, at 468-3431.
Jogi Khanna, M.D. , M.P.H.
Health Officer
Laurie A.
