The use of action levels and the basis for the selection of monitoring equipment is as <br /> explained below: <br /> Action levels determine: <br /> (1) the field team's selection of personal protective equipment, and <br /> (2) the field team's ability to remain and work within the exclusion (work) zone. <br /> The selection of the specified monitoring equipment is based on: <br /> (1) the nature of the contaminants; <br /> (2) the concentrations of the contaminants; <br /> (3) the likelihood of the contaminants entering the air in significant levels; <br /> (4) the probable duration of exposure; and <br /> (5) the relative sensitivity of the monitoring equipment to the specific contaminants. <br /> Protocol Summary: <br /> A respirator will be donned if benzene is measured in the breathing zone (using a colorimetric <br /> tube) above 0.5 ppm. <br /> All direct-reading instrument results will be recorded on the Direct-Reading Instrument Report <br /> (Attachment 5). <br /> 21 <br />
