MINN
xu i##
i
s
PRE-TANK REPLACEMENT Site Assessment Results
- 420 WEST KETTLEMAN LANE,L001, CA.
A.^gis Project No. 84-013
Page 6
3.3 PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS IN SOIL
A total of eleven soil samples were submitted to a state certified
laboratory and analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons. The results of
analyses performed on the soil samples are summarized in Tables 1 and
2. The certified laboratory reports are contained Appendix C. The
following subsections present the results of analyses performed on
soil samples from the existing and proposed underground storage tank
locations.
3.3.1 PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS IN SOIL: EXISTING TANK BASIN
A total of five-soil borings were drilled adjacent to the existing
tank basin. Proposed Boring B-4 was deleted due to its proximity to
subsurface utilities. Samples B-1/3 (15 ft..) , B-2/3 (15 ft.) , B73/1
(5 ft. ) , B-5/2 (10 ft.) and B-6/1 (5 ft.) from soil borings B-1, B-2,
5-3, B-5 and B-5, respectively, were submitted to a state certified
laboratory for analysis (figure 2) . As shown in Table 1, Petroleum
hydrocarbons were detected in one sample submitted from this. area. Low
level toluenes and xylenes were detected .in sample B-1/3 (15 ft. ) .
i Petroleum ;iydrocarbons were not detected in the.remaining samples
analyzed from this area (existing tanks) . Sampl,? B-1/3 was also
analyzed for Total. 'Lead. The results are presented in Table 2. PID
€ readings kere zero in all of the samples that were screened, and no
E gasoline odors were noted in the field logs (Appendix B) .
- 3.3.2 PETROLEUM HYDROCARBONS IN SOIL: PROPOSED NEW TANK LOCATION
-A total" "of eightsoil borings were drilled within the proposed new
tank .location (figure 2) . Samples B-7/1 (5ft.) , B-8/2 (10 ft.) ,
B-11%3 (15. ft.) and B-12/2 (10 ft. ) from borings B-7, B-8, B-11 and B-
12,, respectively, were submitted to a state certified laboratory for
analysis. As shown in Table 1, petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in.
i two."of:the samplt:s submitted from this area (;new tank location) .
_ Toluene was detected in sample B-7/1, at 0 004 ppm (parts per
million) .: The --TPHti-concentratibrf Bete oted°-;'in?sample,B-8/2;;is ;1";060
.- Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in samples B- 11/3 and 8-12/2.
The concentration of Total Lead in samples B-7/1 and B-12/2 are
presented in Table 2.
tPID readings from samples obtained from this area were zero in all
cases.
