The QMR discusses
groundwater monitoring activities conducted in September. The Work Plan proposes to install
five monitoring wells and abandon one monitoring well that is damaged. Four of the proposed
monitoring wells are to delineate the lateral extent of pollution, and the other monitoring well is
to replace the abandoned well. The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) also has
reviewed the Work Plan.
Board and DTSC staff have the following comments on the Work Plan:
1. In Sections 5.1.3 and 5.1.6, the Work Plan proposes to sample for"tri-amyl ether" and
"tri butyl alcohol." The fuel oxygenates required in the Monitoring and Reporting
Program are tertiary amyl methyl ether and tertiary butyl alcohol.
2. Section 4.0 of the Work Plan should identify Figures 4, 5, and 6,not 7.
3. Based on the estimated plume extent shown in Figures 4 and 5, the proposed boring to the
northeast will not adequately delineate the plume extent to the north and northwest.
Morton and Unocal OUs need to propose an additional monitoring well location to
delineate the extent of pollution beyond monitoring well 2AMW-13
California Environmental Protection Agency
co Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
