(Clayton) has prepared this letter on behalf of Alco <br /> Industries, Inc. (Alco) and Union Oil Company(Unocal)regarding a portion of Parcel 3 <br /> located to the east of the former Morton Paint facility and southeast of the former Unocal <br /> facility in Stockton, California(Figure 1). Parcel 3 is currently owned by the City of <br /> Stockton Redevelopment Agency(Redevelopment Agency). <br /> Due to construction and building activities concerning Parcel 3 (scheduled to commence <br /> on April 12th), Clayton is writing this letter to request approval for abandonment of two <br /> groundwater monitoring wells and issue a permit so that well abandonment can begin as <br /> scheduled. Abandonment activities are currently scheduled to begin on April 5`h, 2004. <br /> The wells are identified as 3MW-1R and MW-36 (Figure 3) and will be properly <br /> abandoned in accordance with requirements of the San Joaquin County Environmental <br /> Health Department (SJCEHD). A copy of the monitoring well construction logs and well <br /> construction permit addendum is presented as Attachment A. <br /> The wells will be abandoned by drilling out the existing casing and sand-pack to the total <br /> depth of the well, and backfilling the boring with sand cement. A representative of the <br /> SJCEHD will be present to approve all grouting operations.
