need
confirmation on interpretation. The tank was emptied and contents
analyzed.
They found high levels (350,000 ug/L) of toluene. The tank somehow
filled
with liquid again, a sample of the liquid was analyzed and 2100 ug/L of
toluene was found. The guidelines discuss removing the contents and
performing a visual inspection of the tank_ If cracks or leaks or
visibly
contaminated soil are seen then the tank and any contaminated soil is to
be
removed and disposed of appropriately. So if there are no cracks, leaks
or
visibly impacted soil, does that mean the tank can remain in place and
sampling beneath it is not required?
The consultant wants to remove the liquid and clo e the tank by filling
it
with clean material. Is this ok? Ordo they havl to rinse the tank
until
results indicate the rinseate contains no residual toluene.
There were two soil samples collected beneath the leach lines. one was
30
feet away from the tank because at 20 feet from the tank there was a i
tree i
stump, also there was a break in the leach line a this location, and
the
other at the end of the leach line (15 feet from the first sample) .
Both
samples were ND for VOCs. Is this sufficient?
Depth to water at this site is about 90 feet. I don't think the
contamination in the tank is a threat to groundwater. Can we take this
into
consideration before requiring more soil sampling.
I
Secondly, we got the work plan for the Cal Trans site. Did you get a
copy?
They are only investigating the former leach line area and are sampling
around the leach lines not beneath them. Is this appropriate or should
_be
direct them to sample every 20 feet below each leach line?
Ate-we supposed to copy you on all correspondence for UIC sites?
Margaret
2
