Fj
F Appendi .A
Drilling and Sampling Procedures
' The procedures that will be used for drilling the borings
and collecting soil samples are presented
below.
i
F
r
Drilling Procedures
F U to six soil borings will be advan ed
• p g and sampled using hollow stem auger
(HSA) drilling equipment.
F • Augers and drilling equipment will b washed with a hot water pressure washer
Fprior to drilling each boring.
Sampling Procedures
• The sampling equipment will be w hed in a detergent rinse, two clear water
rinses, and a final deionized/distilled water rinserior
p to drilling. The equipment
will dry air dried or dried using paper towels.
• The borings will be advanced to approximately 3 meters (10 feet) BGS. Discreet
soil samples will be collected at 1.5-meters; (5-feet) and at 3 meters (10 feet) BGS.
Soil samples will be collected using asplit-spoon sampler lined with metal sample
tubes.
• Soil samples will be collected in six-inch long brass sample tubes inserted inside
f the samplers. The sample tubes wil be either pre-washed by the supplier or
washed using a bristle brush with a d tergent rinse followed by two clear water
rinses and final deionized/distilled w ter rinse. The sample tubes will be dry.
before use.
• Samplers will be driven using a 140-pound hammer dropping approximately ;
30 inches.
• Following retrieval of the sampler, the first (lowest) sample tube will be removed
F, from the sampler, the ends covere with TeflonTM film, and capped with
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) end caps.
F; Soil in the next sample tube (where available) will be used to describe the
lithology and measure volatile or anic compound (VOC) concentrations.
Approximately half of the sample from the sample tube will be removed and
a
placed in a resealable plastic bag. The plastic bag will be set aside to allow I
VOCs, if present, to accumulate in the headspace above the sampled soil. The
headspace will then be sampled using a portable photo-ionization detector (PID).
The PID probes will be inserted through a hole made in the plastic bag and the
highest measurement encountered recorded on the boring log.
-115ACRFPf ICOMMOMsacDPLVp21PRJIPJ81831835444.2a6.doc i
A-1 f
