1.2.2.5 Hydraulic Connection with Aquifers
The Upper Tulare Aquifer contains groundwater in unconfined conditions from approximately 5 feet bgs to
approximately 200 feet bgs. Below this depth, groundwater within the Lower Tulare Aquifer is confined by the
impermeable Corcoran Clay Layer. Irrigation is the largest source of regional recharge to the unconfined Upper
Tulare Aquifer, which results in reducing the water quality in the aquifer(USGS, 1998b).
1.2.3 Local Land Use
iLand use in the area is primarily agricultural with some industrial. The site is surrounded to the north, west and
east by farmland. A card lock facility (the CFN) and an equipment maintenance shop, operated by the Woolsey
Oil Company, are located immediately southeast of the site. 1-5 is located approximately 400 feet east of the
site (SECOR, 2004a).
r
r
BLASLAND,BOUCK &LEE, INC.
3124106 engineers,scientists,economists 1-4
' J:\D0006\44634_00161022_Conceptual Site Model.doc
