i
i
Soil from one sample liner from each sample collected was screened. with a photoionization
detector (PID) for volatile organic content. One sample was collected from SBI and three
samples were collected from SB2. Samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG), and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHD) by RESNA's Environmental Laboratory (DHS Cert. No. 1211)
utilizing EPA methods 8020 and modified 8015, respectively. Analytical results for soil are
summarized in Table 2. Laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody documentation are included
i
in Appendix III.
Between sampling attempts, all sampling equipment was cleaned using a three-bucket wash
I
system. In this system, the liners and samplers are scrubbed with a brush in a bucket of tap
water and detergent, rinsed in a second bucket of tap water, and given a final rinse in a bucket
of distilled water. Drill p
were cuttings laced on and covered with 6 'mil plastic sheeting and
i remain on-site.
I
3.2 Subsurface Conditions
1
Soils encountered beneath the site consisted primarily of backfilled pea gravel and native silt.
The maximum depth explored was approximately 28.5 feet below grade.
No soil contamination was detected in any samples collected beneath the former tank pit. Field
PID measurements recorded readings of 2 ppm at a depth of approximately 18 feet below grade
in SB2 prompting further advancement of the boring to collect additional samples. Additional
samples were collected from SB2 at depths of approximately 23 and 28 feet below grade. These
samples also recorded PID readings of 2 ppm. No hydrocarbon odor or discoloration were
noted by the field geologist during site activities. Laboratory analysis determined that no
petroleum hydrocarbons were present in any soil samples collected from borings SBI or SB2.
!.r Groundwater was not encountered and is estimated to be approximately 90 feet below grade.
a
R-010792ML 4
r
