City of Stockton - Van Buskirk Park Golf Course TL 394-0074-01
July 29, 1994 Page 5
4.4 Soil and Groundwater Analysis
' Soil and groundwater samples collected during this investigation were submitted to Twining's
California-certified analytical laboratory in Fresno, California. Based on the product history
of the SITE, samples were analyzed for TPH-D, TPH-G, and BTEX. Preparation and
analytical methods for the laboratory analyses are summarized in Table 1. The laboratory
quality assurance/quality control procedures for the analyses are presented in the SOPS in
Appendix A.
Table 1
Summary of Preparation and Analytical Methods
Type of Analysis Preparation Method Analytical Method
Total Petroleum 50301 GC/FID3
Hydrocarbons -
Gasoline
Benzene, Toluene, 5030 80202 - Soil
Ethylbenzene, Total 6022 - Water
Xylenes
Total Petroleum 33502 GC/FID
Hydrocarbons - Diesel
5030 = Purge&Trap
GC/FID = Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detection
I United States Environmental Protection Agency, Revised November 1986, Test Methods For Evaluating Solid Waste,
Physical/Chemical Methods,EPA SW-846,Third Edition
2 United States Environmental Protection Agency, March 1983, Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water and Waste, Second
Edition.
3 California State Water Resources Control Board, February 1988, Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detection, Draft
Method for Total Petroleum Hydroearbons,Hazardous Material Laboratory,Department of Health Services,Reproduced from
the Leaking Underground Fuel Tank(LUM Field Manual.
5.0 RESULTS AND FINDINGS
5.1 Soil Profile
Native soils encountered at the SITE consisted of silty clay, sandy silt, silty/clayey sand, and
silty sand to the depth of 30 feet BSG, the maximum depth explored. Fill material
consisting of pea gravel and well-graded sand was encountered from ground surface to
approximately 12 feet BSG in boring MW3. Groundwater was encountered at
approximately 14 feet BSG in each boring. The soils are described in detail in the soil
boring logs in Appendix B.
1
