Geocon is
currently in the process of preparing the Problem Assessment Report
("PAR") that is required by your agency. However, since it may be
several weeks before the PAR is completed and submitted I thought
you would want to review the status report in the meantime. As the
status report reflects, Geocon has conducted extensive soil and
groundwater investigation at, the site.
As you will see, the data contained in the status report confirms
that groundwater contamination is coming from an off site source:
Inthe report:,: Geocon states
"The depth to groundwater beneath the site (appro imately °55
fest bgs) and. the maximum depth of detectable petroleum.
hydrocarbons 'in soil (approximately 45 feet bgs) suggest that
the chemical compounds in groundwater have migrated to beneath
the sU.JeC. site: from off site locations. This is further
suppotted .by the fact that MTBE, used as a motor vehicle fuel
-additive, was not introduced into Northern California, until
the early 1980-*.s after the former USTs were removed from the
(Geocon Status Report, p. 24.. The report states that MT.BE< was
