r.. Project No. 034-98081
Page No. 4
within the former UST pit area. Boring BI was located northerly of B I a within the southerly portion of
the former UST area as shown site drawings. Boring B1 was advanced to a total depth of 20 feet.
Analytical data is presented in Table I.
'I
Based on the results of the January 14, 1998 drilling and sampling activities, four additronal borings P 1
+ P2,P3, and P4)were advanced on the site on February 2, 1998. The additional borings were advanced to
...LLL...... i
depths ranging from 20 to 40 feet using direct push (Geoprobe(D) equipment. The locations of these
borings are shown on Figure 2. i
1i
The exploratory borings revealed generally unifonn subsurface conditions characterized by clayey fill
materials underlain by fine-grained, variably-cemented, cohesive native deposits. . Each boring
encountered an approximate eight-inch thick pavement section consisting of asphaltic concrete over
aggregate, base materials. Below the pavement materials, the borings typically encountered soft to F
medium stiff fill materials consisting of dark brown-grey silty clay extending to depths ranging from two
feet and four feet. In Boring P2, the fill materials extended to a depth of approximately nine feet; this
boring appears to be within the former UST pit. Below the fill materials, native, stiff to hard light-
brown fine sandy clayey silts were encountered. The silt deposits were variably cemented with depth
and extended to the maximum depth of exploration (40 feet). Groundwater was not encountered within
f
the borings.
f
! E
Field-screening for olfactory evidence of petroleum hydrocarbons as well as PID screening indicated that
i
portions of the soil profile within Borings P2 (between depths of;five and 25 feet) and P3 (at a depth of
20)exhibited field evidence of PHC soil impact.
The collected samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA `
a Method 8020, total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G)by EPA Method 8015M, and total lead.
r Table I (following text) presents the results of the chemical analyses performed on the submitted soil
samples.
Based on the results of the soil assessment investigation, it appeared the former UST was located in the
vicinity of Boring P2, and that relatively low, residual concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons are
present in soils in this area. . The analytical data established both horizontal and vertical attenuation of
Al
s KRAZAN & ASSOCIATES,INC.
Offices Serving the Western United States
3498081.WP
