Eu
" Project No. 034-98081
11 Page No. 6
4
required if regulatory site closure was to be requested. Krazan suggested this could be accomplished by
U11 I
collecting grab groundwater samples using Geoprobe® equipment from site perimeter locations.
However, the San Joaquin County EHD has requested the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
[3
' to complete the assessment process (see Appendix A).
I
i
1
6.0 SCOPE OF THE ASSESSMENT h
Because the lateral limits of soil contamination were not totally defined during Krazan's work, it is
a
L likely the County will also note this during their review of all reports. Therefore,;)Krazan is also
proposing the collection of soil samples in the vicinity of,the UST during the proposed field
investigation to complete soil characterizations at the subject site:
I
Based on the above-noted County directive and the above soil characterization discussion, Krazan will
conduct the following scope of work, which represents a phased approach to site characterization:
PHASE I
.ii
• Conduct sufficient research of nearby sites to gain a clear understanding historical and t
i present groundwater flow direction and depth. ii
i
• Prepare this Workplan/Health and Safety Plan for submittal to and approval by, the
SJCEHD. The workplan will include a screening phase during which grab
groundwater samples will be collected to determine the distribution of contaminants in
the upper aquifer, and a later well installat QII—phas, e"Complete a sub-surface
investigation permit and pay fees prior to initiation of work.
• Advance two (2) Geoprobe® borings (one north and one south of the former UST
7 location) to complete lateral definition of soil contamination. Samples will be collected
at depthsof 20_3p-a40 f t bgs from each boring. Samples will be analyzed for
t _ BTEX/TPH-G. Grout es when completed.
• Advance four (4) Geoprobe® borings to a depth of SO feet bgs to collect grab
groundwater samples for the purpose of determining how petroleum hydrocarbons,
known to exist in groundwater below the former UST area, are distributed down-
gradient of this source. This information will be used to optimally position the
permanent monitoring wells.
PHASE II
• Advance three (3) boreholes using a drilling rig equipped with hollow:stem auger, for
the purpose of construction of groundwater monitoring wells.
