Iw Project No. 014-98081
Page No. 2
l
Item No.3. In addition to the proposed laboratory analyses, SJCEHD will select the soil samples to be
analyzed by EPA Method 8260 for all of the seven oxygenates noted in the':policy enclosed
within the SJCEHD's June 23, 1998 letter. After the monitoring wells are installed and
developed, the groundwater samples are to be analyzed for all of the oxygenates by Method
8260. I'
1
Item No. 4. Only neat cement (Type II-Portland), or cement with 3%-5% NSF labeled bentonite by
weight, or an approved bentonite slurry can be used to grout monitoring wells. The ratio of
gallons minimum
potable water to cement is regulated. A 94 pound ba of cement to five g
and ten gallons maximum is the only acceptable ratio. Cement grout will be 6emie-pipe7
installed from the bentonite up to the surface.
!
Item No. 5. Based on the request to obtain soil samples from a depth of 60 feet bgs (which may be as
much as 20 feet below the surface of the water table), Krazan proposes to drill the soil
borings using hollow stem auger. The proposed direct-push rig contractor was unable to
state with certainty that their equipment would be able to acquire soil samples from 60 feet
bgs. Subaqueous samples will be collected with a split-spoon sampler equipped with a
"sand catcher"or"sand basket."
i.
On behalf of Wilbur-Ellis, Krazan respectfully requests that SJCEHD approve a request to extend the
Phase One report submittal date to August 31, 1998. If you have any questions or if we can be of further
assistance, please feel free to contact our office at(209) 348-2200. d
Respectfully submitted,
KRAZAN&ASSOCIATES, INC.
Bruce E.
