SOIL REMEDIATION REPORT <br /> 6540 E JAHANT ROAD <br /> ACAMPO, CALIFORNIA 95220 <br /> 1 0 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND <br /> ' This soil remediation report has been prepared to provide a detailed discussion of the remedial <br /> activities conducted at the site located at 6540 E Jahant Road in Acampo, California <br /> ' The site resides in a rural area northeast of the city of Acampo The property is used for <br /> agricultural and residential purposes The location of the site is shown on Figure 1 <br /> In 1946, a 300 gallon underground fuel storage tank was installed on the property The tank was <br /> used for the fueling of both farming equipment and personnel vehicles Use of the tank continued <br /> through 1986 when it was removed from service During the operating period for the tank, both <br /> ' leaded and unleaded gasoline were stored in it <br /> On July 17, 1991, the underground storage tank was removed The tank was visually observed to <br /> ' be in poor condition and petroleum hydrocarbon odors were detected within the excavation <br /> overburden Sal sampling of the tank excavation bottom soil was conducted The analysis of the <br /> soils samples indicated a significant presence of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds <br /> Subsequent over-excavation of the tank area to remove impacted soils was conducted These soils <br /> were stockpiled onsite and amounted to approximately 600 cubic yards (cu yds) Soil samples were <br /> collected from the stockpiled soils The analytical results for the soil stockpile samples are enclosed <br /> as Appendix A These results indicated that the stockpiled soils contained Total Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbon compounds as Gasoline (TPH-G) in concentrations up to 907 milligrams per kilogram <br /> (mg/kg) Varying levels of Benzene, Toluene,Xylene and Ethyl-benzene (BTX&E) were also detected <br /> in these soils No EDB was detected in these soils In order to remediate the stockpiled soils, <br /> ' TreaTek Inc (TreaTek) initiated a biological remediation program <br /> The following sections provide a detailed discussion of the biological remediation program <br /> ' conducted at the site <br /> 20 BIOLOGICAL REMEDIAL PROGRAM <br /> ' On November 14, 1991, TreaTek prepared and submitted a soil remediation work plan for the <br /> subject site This work plan contained detailed discussions of the planned site activities In <br /> conjunction with the submittal of this work plan, the 600 cuyds of soil were placed onto a treatment <br /> ' bed <br /> The treatment bed, located as shown on Figure 2, was first lined with 6 mil plastic sheeting on top <br /> ' of the native soil Once the plastic was placed, the stockpiled soil was distributed onto the plastic <br /> with a maximum thickness of two feet Fallowing placement of the soil, the bed was covered with <br /> 6 mil black plastic sheeting (Figure 3) to preclude volatile compound emissions, moisture loss and <br /> ' to maintain a constant bed temperature <br /> The bed remained in this condition until December 16, 1991 at which time the soil additive nutrients <br /> ' consisting of Ammonium Monophosphate, Ammonium Sulphate, Urea, Yeast Extract and Potassium <br /> Chloride were surface applied Once applied, these nutrients were blended into the soils via tilling <br /> 1 <br />
