(Canonie) has prepared this Closure Excavation
and Sampling Workplan for Time Oil Company's (Time Oil's) former service station
located at 13475 North Jack Tone Road in Lodi, California. This workplan covers the
excavation of soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons identified during tank removal
activities at the Time Oil site.
Site Background
Six underground storage tanks were removed from the Jackpot Food Mart owned by
Time Oil in November, 1990. Following tank and product piping removal, a total of 17 soil
samples were collected and analyzed for closure verification. The results of these
analyses are presented in Table 1 and sample locations may be referenced on Figure 1.
One of three soil samples taken under the former 12,000-gallon gasoline tank location
(designated Sample No. 5) at a depth of 15 feet indicated the presence of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G) at a concentration of 91 parts per million (ppm), and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) at concentrations of 0.10 ppm, 0.72
ppm, 6.6 ppm, and 0.81 ppm, respectively. Additionally, a soil sample collected from the
south end of the pump island at a depth of three feet indicated the presence of TPH-G
at a concentration of 590 ppm and BTEX at concentrations of 1.3 ppm, 2.2 ppm, 5.2
ppm, and 0.30 ppm respectively. None of the other 15 soil samples indicated detectable
concentrations of any analytes.
Proposed Closure Work
Canonie will re-excavate the former common tank location to the original limits at the
southwestern end of the tank excavation where the 12,000-gallon gasoline tank was
located. The soils near the Sample No. 5 location will be over-excavated to remove soil
