REMEDIATION TESTING AND DESIGN May 28, 1993
To determine the capture radius, the distance at which the pressure
differential created by a vacuum is measured in the lateral plane,
the vacuum gradient in neighboring probes will be noted by recording
pressure changes in inches of water ( "H2O) using magnehelic
differential pressure gauges . The detection limit for the vacuum
gradient will range from 0 . 01 to 5 . 0 "H2O . Sample purge rates,
vacuum readings and differential pressures will be recorded for
further analysis . Any liquid wastes produced during the VEFT will
be collected in the accumulator and transferred to a 55-gallon DOT
drum and temporarily stored on site . Disposal of extracted water is
the responsibility of Ultramar.
During each VEFT, TVH levels of the extracted vapors will be
monitored continuously with the Beckman. At the end of each test, a
1-liter Tedlar air bag will be filled with extracted soil gas vapors
for laboratory analysis . The Tedlar air bags will be transported in
iced storage under chain of custody documentation to a laboratory
for analysis of TPHg and BTEX . The laboratory results may be used
to help design and size the vapor treatment system to be used during
remediation.
Report Preparation
Based on the results of the Soil Gas Survey and the Vacuum
Extraction Feasibility Testing, a report will be prepared. The
report will summarize field activities and present results of the
SGS and VEFT. In addition to data presentation, the report will
also contain RTDs conclusions and recommendations for further site
work, if needed.
Copies of the report on the work performed will be submitted to
Ultramar for distribution to all concerned parties .
If you have any questions or comments regarding this workplan,
please contact me or the Principal Geologist, Howard E . Whitney at
(408) 458-1612 .
Sincerely,
T
TION TESTI AND DESIGN
E . Armstrong
President
CC: Mr. Kenneth Earnest, Ultramar, Inc .
Mr. Harlan Knoll , San Joaquin County Public Health Services
3
