27 February 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0273
3.3. GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
LW Grab ground water samples were collected from each probe boring using a Geoprobe water sampling
assembly. Probe rods were extended into ground water at approximately twelve feet bsg, then pulled .
LW back to expose a water sampler screen interval. Ground water was allowed to enter the sampler, and
samples were retrieved using a modified PVC tubing bailer.
LM Samples were collected in 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0.5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid
for sample preservation. The samples were labeled, placed.in a chilled container and transported
under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis. The sampler was disassembled and cleaned prior to each
d. sampling event. New PVC tubing was used to collect each sample.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and ground water samples were analyzed for TPH-g, BTE&X and methyl tertiary butyl
ether(MTBE). Soil samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA Methods 5030/8015m and 8020;
ground water samples were analyzed-in accordance with EPA Methods 5030/8015m and 602.
4.0. FINDINGS
d.
4.1. STRATIGRAPHY
#-0 Brown and gray, silty clay was encountered from the surface to depths of approximately 15 feet bsg,
in each probe boring.
4.2. LABORATORY RESULTS OF PROBING SOIL SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in one of the soil samples analyzed. TPH-g was detected at a concentrations of
930 parts per million (ppnn, reported as milligrams per kilogram) in sample P2-10. The
concentrations of the BTE&X chemicals detected in the same sample were 0.21 ppm, 2.0 ppm, 14
ppm, and 62 ppm, respectively. MTBE was not detected in any of the soil samples analyzed. -
LW
No other soil samples contained detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. Analytical
results of soil samples are summarized'on Table 1 - Analytical Results of Soil Samples. The
Iaboratory report(MAI Laboratory ID 71352 through 71357), QA/QC report and chain-of-custody
ice. are in Appendix A -Analytical Results of Probing Samples
