r
September 12, 1991 A M
ARCO Station No. 2076, Lodi, California --
"° C NCL I NS
Utilizing the vacuum and distance measurements obtained during the VET, an effective
radius of influence can be estimated for the site. The effective radius of influence is defined
as the radial distance from a vapor-extraction well within which recorded vacuum levels
indicate that subsurface air now rates are sufficient for remediation. RESNA estimates that
a wellhead vacuum of 10 inches of water at a flow rate of50orm will
res It in an f feused
radius of influence of approximately 30 feet (Plate 2). p
for remediation at the site should be installed at distances less than 60 feet apart. Based
upon the VET data, RESNA concludes that vapor extraction is a feasible method of
r remediating soil at this site. The radius of influence estimated above can be further refined
and the remediation time frame can be initially estimated as additional subsurface
environmental investigations are performed.
Additional analytical data will be obtained when the existing gasoline storage tanks and
product lines are removed. These tasks will evaluate the need for further assessment at the
site. If analytical results of soil samples collected during the tank removal indicate no
further assessment is warranted, no remedial tasks will be conducted at he site. If residual
hydrocarbons are detected at levels requiring remediation, we plan to install a VES after
the hydrocarbon plume is defined in a subsequent environmental investigation. The
,,.
distribution and concentrations of hydrocarbons delineated from subsequent investigations
would be used to determine applicable vacuum and flow rates before selecting a treatment
device.
Therms! oxidation, catalytic oxidation, activated carbon adsorption, and destruction by an
internal combustion (IC) engine are possible alternatives to control off-gas emissions and
are approved by the San Joaquin Air pollution Control District. if soil remediation at the
ET
subject site becomescarbon or a catticollected
ly#c oxdi er w ll provthe
for hmost suggests
t econmical off-gas
use of activate
treatment.
--
O9t2cCAR 3
MMS-4
w
