PHS/EHD has a contract with the California
State Water Resources Control Board to conduct a UST corrective action program. The above
referenced site has been placed in the PHS/EHD Local Oversight Program as a result of the
gasoline and methyl tert-butly ether(MTBE) contamination found in the soil samples collected
during UST removal on June 30, 1998.
Soil samples were collected under the UST system as required under permit for removal. Three
of the samples at 17 feet below ground surface (BGS)were positive for MTBE, an additive
component of formulated fuel. MTBE and TPH-GASOLINE was also evidenced in samples
collected from soil removed from the tank field that is currently stockpiled on-site.
Due to the contamination in the soil at 17 feet(BGS) and in the soil stockpiled that may threaten
water quality, PHS/EHD directs you to remove the stockpile for proper disposal and conduct a
soil and groundwater investigation.
PHS/EHD recommends you apply to the State Water Resources Control Board Cleanup Fund
(Fund) for reimbursement of costs associated with soil disposal and further investigation and
possible remediation. Please submit a Work Plan to PHS1EHD to define the vertical and lateral
extent of contamination.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, contact Harlin Knoll at(209) 468-3442.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
1
ZC4
HS'
Harlin Knoll, Senior RE Margaret agorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Superi+isor
HK
cc: CVRWQCB-Mark List
cc: SWRCB, Cleanup Fund - Dave Deaner
WORoIFE.RME LIQUORS
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
