The 4 existing vapor extraction wells (VW1 through VW4), installed in 2005 and used for a soil
vapor extraction(SVE) pilot test in 2006,will be piped along with MW-1 and MW-2 to a 250
cubic feet per minute(cfm)blower and catalytic oxidizer to perform interim soil vapor
extraction.
2. During the first week of operation, soil vapor influent and effluent samples will be collected
and analyzed on a daily basis to monitor contaminant destruction efficiency. Along with
vapor monitoring, additional parameters will be recorded during this period: a€r flow, vacuum,
and temperature.
3. After one week of continuous operation, sampling will be reduced from a daily to a monthly
Interval.
4. Vapor analysis will include:TPH-gas,STEX,and MTBE.
5. SVE reporting will be done on a quarterly basis.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1. The proposed VW5 cannot be approved at this time. Soil borings P4.and P5 completed by
AGE in the fuel dispensing area were non-detect for all contaminants analyzed and soil
results from MW-2 indicate low levels of vadose contaminant mass. If better justification for
the installation of VW5 can be supported, EHD will reevaluate the need for any additional SVE
remediation wells.
2. When all required permits are In place, continuous SVE should begin without any further
delays.
3. Increasingly high concentrations of MTBE in the groundwater have been documented at your
site. This WP does not address groundwater remediation/cleanup. Groundwater cleanup will
also be required at your site. Please submit a WP for groundwater remediation as soon as
possible.
DATED Z/10 OO BY
Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS(209)468-3442
cc: AGE
r
