' 10 February 2006
• AGE-NC Project No 02-0977
' 3.0. FINDINGS
Soil descriptions were utilized to construct geologic cross section C-C' of the site Field data was
' utilized to select soil samples for laboratory analysis and to determine ground water flow direction
and gradient Hydrocarbon impact to soil and ground water was assessed and quantified by laboratory
analysis
31 STRATIGRAPHY
' Generally, medium dense to dense, silty fine sands and unconsolidated fine to medium sands were
encountered at depths between 5 feet and 20 feet bsg, underlain by very stiff to hard, fine sandy silts
' at depths between 25 feet and 30 feet bsg At depths between 35 feet and 40 feet bsg, medium dense
to dense, silty fine sand and unconsolidated fine to medium sand was generally encountered underlain
by very stiff to hard, fine sandy, clayey silt at depths between 45 feet and 65 feet bsg Generally,
' medium dense to dense, clayey fine sand was encountered at a depth of 70 feet bsg Boring logs are
included in Appendix B General lithology beneath the site is depicted in cross-sectional view C-C'
in Figure 3
Saturated soil was encountered at approximately 60 feet bsg from B5 and B8,65 feet bsg from MW-8,
and 70 feet from B6,B7 and B9,the ground water level from MW-8 were measured at approximately
' 54 feet bsg utilizing a Solinst water level meter
' 3 2 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
Faint hydrocarbon odor was detected from B5 at depths between 40 feet and 70 feet bsg Faint to
intense hydrocarbon odor was detected from B6 (VW-2) and B7 (VW-1) at depths between 30 feet
and 70 feet bsg Faint to moderate hydrocarbon odor was detected from B8(VW-3)at depths between
' 25 feet and 65 feet bsg and from B9 (VW-4) at depths between 20 feet and 55 feet bsg No
hydrocarbon odor was noted from MW-8 Hydrocarbon odor observations are documented on the
boring logs in Appendix B
Organic vapor (confirmed with the PID) was detected in soil samples collected from BS at depths
between 40 feet and 70 feet bsg,from B6(VW-2)at depths between 20 feet and 70 feet bsg,from B7
(VW-1)at depths between 20 feet and 65 feet bsg,from B8 (VW-3)at depths between 25 and 50 feet
bsg and from B9 (VW-4) at depths between 20 and 60 feet bsg No organic vapor was detected from
MW-8 Organic vapor observations are documented in boring logs in Appendix B
Advanced GeoEnvsronmental,Inc
1
