r
hTJ KL E I N F E L D E R
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This is a report of Kleinfelder's Limited Soil Sampling and Analysis conducted at the proposed
Glenbriar School Site located south of Valpico Road and west of MacArthur Drive in Tracy,
California (See Plate 1). Dr. Ellen Hancock of the Jefferson School District, retained Kleinfelder
on June 5, 1998 to conduct the assessment in accordance with Kleinfelder's proposal entitled
"Limited Soil Sampling and Analysis, Proposed Glenbriar Estates School Site, Tracy, California",
dated July 31, 1997 (File No. 20-YP7043).
Sierra Environmental Consultants conducted a Phase I Environmental Assessment of the subject
site. Their report entitled "Phase I Environmental Assessment, for the Jefferson School District's
proposed Glenbriar Estates School Site, Tracy, San Joaquin County, California," dated April 11,
1997, included the following recommendations related to the subject site:
• Soil sampling and analysis for fuel, oil, grease, solvent hydrocarbons and heavy metals, in the
former gravel pit adjacent to the western boundary of the orchard.
• Soil sampling and analysis for heavy metals and chlorinated hydrocarbons including DDT,
DBCT,EDB,DD,arsenic,and lead.
Kleinfelder submitted a workplan to San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department
s
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD), based on Sierra Environmental's Phase I report and
Kleinfelder's contract with the Jefferson School District. Based on the submittal, permit and
workplan approval was given by Ms. Lori Duncan of PHS/EHD on July 8, 1998.
On July 16, 1998, Kleinfelder advanced a total of seven hand augered soil borings. Two of the
borings (B 1 and B2) were advanced to a depth of five feet in the area of the former gravel pit,
and five (SBI through SB5) were advanced to a depth of six inches to one foot in the orchard
west of Mac Arthur Drive. The scope of work was changed from the approved scope due to
significant changes in site conditions. The soil samples were analyzed for one or more of the
following:
• Halogenated Volatile Organics by EPA Method 8010
• Fuel Fingerprint by EPA Method 3510/8015M
• CAM-17 Metals by EPA Methods
• Organochlorine Pesticides and PCBs by EPA Method 8080
204202-0I.P0212018R669 Page 1 of 14
© 1998,Kleinfelder.Inc.
