4
Preliminary Subsurface Investigation Report
FORMER GRAYLIFT,INC.
3131 E. Fremont Street, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF WORK
At the request of Mr. Dana Suntag, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has prepared this
Preliminary Subsurface Investigation Report for the former Graylift, Inc. property located at 3131
E.Fremont Street,Stockton,California(site). The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1;a site
plan is shown in Figure 2.
The scope of work included the advancement of nineteen soil probe borings and four hand-auger
borings to investigate the potential release of petroleum hydrocarbons, selected metals, and volatile
organic compounds (VOC's) in soil and ground water. This report is prepared in accordance with
guidelines established by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board for investigation
of underground storage tank(UST) sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
The site is located in San Joaquin County, in the city of Stockton. The site is located in an area of
low topographic relief.
Review of depth to ground water maps published by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and
Water Conservation District for Fall 1998 indicates that ground water depths are approximately 55
feet below surface grade (bsg) near the site (Fall 1998). Depth to ground water in this area can be
influenced locally and seasonally.
AGE found information indicating that two underground storage tanks (USTs) had been removed
from the site in December 1986, one 10,000-gallon unleaded gasoline UST and one 5,000-gallon
diesel UST. During the UST removals, soil samples were collected from beneath each UST. The
results of the laboratory analyses of the samples did not indicate a petroleum hydrocarbon-impact
to soil in the former UST area; the PHS-EHD issued a No Further Action Letter on 10 February
1994.
AGE also found information indicating that the southeast portion of the property was formerly
utilized as a gasoline and service station by Shell Oil from approximately 1962 through 1973.
Minimal documentation was found regarding the decommissioning of the station and UST system.
At the request of Mr.Dana Suntag,representing Mr.Wiley Chandler,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc.performed a preliminary subsurface investigation to assess for petroleum hydrocarbons, selected
metals, and volatile organic compounds(VOCs)impacting soil and/or ground water resulting from
unauthorized release(s)at 3131 E.Fremont Street, Stockton,California(site).Use of such materials
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
