22 May 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0704
• Laboratory analysis and field screening data of soil sample B5-10' indicate petroleum
hydrocarbon-impact to soil at a depth of 10 feet bsg on the former Shell service station site.
An OVM reading of 0.2 ppm from sample B5-5'may indicate a shallow release originating
from or near the surface, possibly from a former dispenser island or product piping in that
area.
• Laboratory analysis of lead concentrations as high as 200 ppm in soil samples HA4-2' and
B12-6" (2:1), may indicate a release of the metal to soil in those areas. The concentration
detected exceeded a concentration 10 times greater than the soluble threshold limit
concentration (STLC) for lead.
6.0. RECOMMENDATIONS
Based upon data collected during March 2000,AGE recommends additional subsurface investigation
in the areas near borings HAI,HA2,HA3,B5 and B8 to determine the vertical and lateral extent of
petroleum hydrocarbon-impact in soil and/or ground water. Additional assessment in the HA4 and
B 12 areas for lead is warranted.Additional assessment of soil and ground water on the former Shell
service station property.
7.0. LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were based mainly
upon analytical results provided by an independent laboratory. Evaluations of the geologic/hydro-
geologic conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are made from a limited number
of available data points(e.g.soil samples and ground water samples),and subsurface conditions may
vary away from these data points. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the
professional recommendations contained in this report.
Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
