Sample TP-10 was also analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd) by EPA Method 8015 (Modified), polychlorinated biphenyls
(PCBs) by EPA Method 8082, chlorinated hydrocarbons by EPA Method 8260B, and CAM 17
Metals by EPA Methods 6010B and 7471A. Samples were analyzed by State-certified Kiff
Analytical, LLC, of Davis, California or Severn Trent Laboratories, Inc. of Pleasanton,
California. The laboratory reports are included as Attachment B.
Pea Gravel Re-use: All pea gravel removed during UST, product piping, and dispenser removal
activities was stockpiled and stored on site. On March 25, 2005, under the direction of Michele
Le of the SJCEHD, Cambria field staff sampled approximately 500 cubic yards of pea gravel
(SP-2-1, SP-2-2, SP-2-3, SP-24, and SP-2-5). The samples were analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and
lead. Based on the analytical results, the pea gravel was re-used by Paradiso. The certified
analytical laboratory report is included in Attachment B.
Soil Disposal: Approximately 333 tons of soil were generated during field activities, temporarily
stored on site, and covered with plastic sheeting. The soil stockpile was sampled and profiled for
disposal. The laboratory report is included in Attachment B. On April 11, 2005, Manley and
Sons Trucking, Inc. of Sacramento, California transported the soil to Allied Waste Industries'
Forward Landfill in Manteca, California for disposal as non-hazardous waste. Disposal
confirmation is included as Attachment C.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Cambria summarizes soil analytical results in Tables 1 and 2. The laboratory analytical reports
are included in Attachment B. A summary of these data is presented below.
Four samples collected from the UST excavation contained TBA at concentrations ranging from
0.0051 to 0.12 parts per million (ppm). No TPHg, BTEX, or fuel oxygenates other than TBA
were detected in any samples collected from the UST excavation. Over-excavation samples did
not contain any petroleum hydrocarbons or fuel oxygenates.
The soil sample collected from beneath the waste oil UST contained 0.751 ppm arsenic, 20.9 ppm
barium, 3.93 ppm chromium, 1.65 ppm cobalt, 7.68 ppm copper, 2.31 ppm lead, 1.70 ppm nickel,
8.91 ppm vanadium, and 19.9 ppm zinc. No TPHd, TPHg, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, PCBs, or
chlorinated hydrocarbons were detected in soil beneath the waste oil UST.
No petroleum hydrocarbons or fuel oxygenates were detected beneath the dispenser or piping
areas.
3
