P1 salvo Trucking - O.E.S.
Over-Excavation
June 21, 1994
Page -4-
-of-custody procedures to GeoAnalytical Laboratories in Modesto,
California. Following the over-excavation, the hole was left
' open and surrounded with barricades .
4.0 LABORATORY ANALYSES
The soil samples collected from the over-excavation and the
stockpile were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and
xylene (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020 and for TEPH quantified as
diesel, kerosene, and motor oil by method 3550/LUFT. The results
of the laboratory analyses are presented in Table 1. Laboratory
report sheets indicating analytical methods used, detection
limits, and results of analyses are presented in Appendix B.
TABLE I
Over-Excavation
Soil Sample Laboratory Results P
B T E X TEPH
Detection sample 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0
Limits. /k /k /k /k /k
I724-EAST-A-15 ND ND ND ND ND
724-EAST-B-15 ND ND ND ND ND
724-BTM-15 .5 ND 6 . 2 ND 10 ND
724-STCRP3 ND ND ND 11 40*
Unit Conversions
pg/kg:parts per billion (ppb) S,T,E,X - benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene
mg/kg:parts per million (ppm) TEPH - total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons, quantified as diesel
ND none detected at or above laboratory detection limit
I a TEPH constituent identified at laboratory as diesel
Yfjf_J/
5.0 RESULTS OF ANALYSES
Laboratory analyses indicated 6 .2 µg/kg toluene and 10 µg/kg
IXylene in the sample collected from the floor of the excavation
at a depth of 15.5 feet.
