PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES ,oP
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISI N
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
2091468-3420
FILE
C
ERNEST J POMBO JR APR 2 6 1999
P O BOX 805
TRACY CA 95378
RE: Pombo Ranch Property SITE CODE: 508110
24100 S Lammers Road
Tracy CA 95378
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
received the "Work Plan-Subsurface Investigation, P mbo Ranch Property, 24100 S.
Lammers Road, Tracy, California" dated April 19, 1999 that was submitted by M. J.
Kloberdanz &Associates on behalf of the above refE renced site, and has the following
comments for your consideration and action.
The work plan proposes "to drill up to 4 Geoprobe b rings to a maximum depth of 30 feet" in
the area of the former underground tank location (boring B-3) that evidenced significant
levels of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at the September 16, 1998 environmental
site assessment conducted at this site. Soil samples and one grab groundwater sample will
be collected from each boring for analysis. Followin receipt of the analytical data, M. J.
Kloberdanz &Associates will suggest the locations f r three monitoring wells. Please note
that the scaled site map included with the work plan indicated the locations of only three new
borings and that the closest one to boring B-3 is app oximately 48 feet away.
In correspondence dated December 8, 1998 PHS/E D requested a work plan to define the
vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminat on in the former underground tank area,
and the lateral extent to the north and the east of this area. The work plan submitted did not
address the vertical extent of contamination in the source area.
PHS/EHD recommends that the proposed borings be located closer to boring B-3, and that
one of them be placed directly north of the former underground tank location. The location
proposed in the work plan is to the northwest, beyond the location of boring B-2. The
analytical results from the September 16, 1998 B-2 boring were non-detect (ND) in the soil
sample collected at ten feet below surface grade (b g) and for the groundwater sample
collected at fifteen feet bsg.
PHS/EHD requested that a well survey, which shows the location of all agricultural, industrial,
domestic, municipal and other wells within a 2000-f of radius of the site, be submitted with
the work plan. While this request was acknowledge J in the work plan, the survey was not
done.
A Division of San Joaquin County}I alth Care Services
